About The G&D
THE CENTRE OF THE COMMUNITY
The George & Dragon is located in the small village of Hudswell in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. It was the first community owned pub in Yorkshire and offers a warm and friendly welcome to everybody. The George & Dragon is at the centre of the local community, offering a little local shop, library, community allotments and free internet access.
Following the closure in 2008 of Hudswell’s only pub, the re-opened George and Dragon is now restored as a centre of social life for the village and as a thriving business.
We have an impressive range of cask ales and our food offerings focus on the use of fresh local ingredients served in a welcoming and friendly environment. Locals and visitors alike are now making use of the fine facilities of this traditional, award winning, dales pub.
The George & Dragon News
As we are the first community pub in Yorkshire and have such amazing food and drink and walks nearby, it’s understandable that the G&D regularly attracts media attention and celebrities. Here are a few stories where we made the news.

Rishi Sunak pops in for lunch while visiting the Hudswell church conversion project
14th October 2022
Another visit by Rishi, for lunch, prior to visiting St. Michaels church. Rishi is backing our scheme to convert the church into a hostel where visitors can find quality rooms for a night at affordable prices.
This is a new and really exciting project that the whole community are getting behind. It will be great to see the church used for such a great cause.

The G&D Annual Beer Festival 2022
1st October 2022
Another great beer festival took place a little later this year, but was equally enjoyed by all. The festival featured over 25 guest beers and ciders, mainly supplied by micro-breweries from the local region.
There was loads of live music, loads of delicious food, loads of fun and frivolity plus loads of beer that even ran out!
This popular tradition will continue and the event planning is already underway! Watch out for details with dates expected to be announced for the August bank holiday. Fingers crossed the sun shines, though even if it rains there’s always ample cover.
We are happy to announce that the George & Dragon is under new management
21st July 2022
It’s all change at the G&D. For just the third time since becoming a community owned pub thirteen years ago, there’s a new team at the helm. First there was Jackie and Margaret, then Stu & Melisa, now Mark and Michelle take over the reigns.
Mark and Michelle want to ensure the pub remains a locals’ local while focusing on making the pub a welcoming place for everyone.
They are planning a selection of regular events including live music, quizzes and food themed evenings.

Written by Kevin Rushby, he highlights the walks from and to the George & Dragon amongst the Guardian’s top 10 pub walks.
The article also refers to the excellent book of walks that is available to buy in the pub. More details about the book can be found here.

new developments – Bees, Trees and Wees!
3rd June 2019
Our local MP, Rishi Sunak was invited to open three of our latest developments.
The construction of accessible toilets, additional storage space and extended patio area; the expansion of our bee colonies; the planting of a small wood below the allotments were completed in March 2019. The new toilets, featuring a fully accessible, wheelchair friendly cubicle and baby changing facilities have proved very popular.

HRH dropped in for a pint and chat during a visit to the Yorkshire Dales. He met with the board of directors of HCP Ltd and with members of the Book Club, Hudswell History Group, Dominoes Team, Allotment Holders, the Parish Council, Little Shop Volunteers, local musicians and some pub regulars, before venturing outside to greet the residents of Hudswell.
